In seconds, sift through gigabytes of current weather forecasts from around the world, for any US city.  Quickly reveal critical information related to Weather Forecast Confidence:

  • Model Agreement Are all weather models are in “Agreement” or “Disagreement” with each other.
  • Ensemble Analysis  Weather Insight hosts a number of weather models which produce Ensemble forecasts.  An Ensemble forecast indicates that a specific weather model is run many times; the total number of times the weather model is run, is referred to as the number of “members” or “iterations” of an Ensemble.  Within each iteration, slight meteorological variations are implemented, which provide potentially different forecasts.  All forecasts are gathered and are collectively known as the Ensemble Outputs.  Compass allows you to view the highest and lowest member of the ensemble members as well as the 67% range of all Ensemble members.
  • BIAS Analysis  Direct model output usually has a systematic bias due to the model resolution and physical parameterisation used within each weather forecast model. Additional sources of BIAS come from spatial and temporal interpolation errors when the model output is used to produce a forecast, for a specific site and specific time.  Many of these BIAS can be systematically removed and historically checked. After the bias-correction is applied to each individual weather model the current model forecasts can be combined to produce an optimal consensus forecast (like in Q-Cast)
